SAN is one of the closest airports to any MLB ballpark in the country — just 3 miles from Petco Park. A rideshare from baggage claim typically runs $10–$18 and takes under 15 minutes with light traffic. The MTS Route 992 shuttle also connects the airport to downtown. You could practically walk if you weren't carrying luggage.
Petco Park has limited on-site parking. The Tailgate Park lot at Park Blvd & 12th Ave is the closest official option. Dozens of public and private garages are within easy walking distance throughout the East Village and downtown core. Pre-purchase a spot through the Padres website or apps like SpotHero to lock in better rates.
Traditional tailgating doesn't really happen at Petco — it's an urban ballpark surrounded by streets and garages. The pre-game scene instead spills into the Gaslamp Quarter and East Village bars, many of which are just steps from the gates. It's a great trade-off.
The 12th & Imperial Transit Center is a major hub two blocks from the ballpark, served by the Blue, Orange, and Green Lines. The Park & Market stop is even closer. MTS runs extended service on Padres game nights — check sdmts.com for the game-day schedule.
Petco Park is embedded in the East Village with the Gaslamp Quarter on its doorstep. Little Italy, the Embarcadero, and the Marina district are all within a 15–20 minute walk. This is a downtown ballpark experience at its best — leave the car and explore.
Petco Park runs a free bike valet near the Park Blvd entrance on game days, staffed throughout the game. Downtown San Diego's growing bike lane network makes cycling from Mission Hills, North Park, Hillcrest, or Little Italy a genuine option.
Accessible parking is available at the Tailgate Park lot and partnering garages — ADA spaces can be reserved in advance on the Padres website. The accessible drop-off zone is on 10th Ave at the K Street gate. For accessibility services and accommodations, contact the Padres at (619) 795-5555.
Petco Park opened in 2004 in San Diego's East Village neighborhood and is consistently ranked among the best ballparks in baseball. It holds just over 42,000 fans and integrates the Western Metal Supply Co. building — a brick warehouse from 1909 — into the left field corner, giving it a genuine historical anchor. The sight lines are excellent throughout, the park is open and airy, and San Diego's near-perfect weather means the outdoor experience is reliably comfortable.
East Village is one of San Diego's most dynamic neighborhoods, with a dense collection of bars, restaurants, and breweries within easy walking distance of the ballpark — particularly along Park Boulevard and Petco Park's surrounding plaza. The San Diego Trolley's Blue Line stops at 12th & Imperial Transit Center, a 10-minute walk away. The Gaslamp Quarter is directly adjacent for more dining and nightlife options after the game. It's one of the most complete ballpark neighborhood experiences in MLB.
Guests are allowed to bring one factory-sealed plastic bottled water that is still, clear and unflavored and that is one (1) liter (32 ounces) or less, and soft-sided single juice or milk containers or ADA required liquids in a sealed container.
Outside food, exclusive of medical or infant needs, is not permitted at Petco Park.

The 1909 brick warehouse incorporated into the left field side of Petco Park is a rare piece of preserved San Diego history and gives the ballpark a one-of-a-kind backdrop.
A bronze statue of Tony Gwynn stands outside Petco Park honoring "Mr. Padre" — 20 seasons, 8 batting titles, and a .338 career average, all in San Diego.
An elevated open-air deck above the left field bullpen featuring craft beer and field views. One of the most social and relaxed spots in any MLB ballpark.
A stretch of San Diego craft brewery stands on the main concourse serves some of the city's best beer. San Diego has one of the strongest brewing scenes in America.
